How and Why to choose a Certified Specialist as Your Lawyer
As in many areas that require you to seek out professional help, the legal field is very broad and complicated at first glance. In order to help you find the right attorney for your situation, the Ohio State Bar Association implemented a certification program several years ago to allow attorneys who specialize in various area of law to obtain a certification that would allow the public to know that each attorney has established knowledge and experience in that particular area of practice.
In order to become a Certified Specialist in Labor and Employment law must have spent a significant portion of his or her prior three years practicing in this field. In applying, the lawyer must submit to a peer review process where both judges and opposing counsel are questioned as to the applicant’s substantive knowledge and professionalism. In addition the applicant must submit a summary of trials and appeals in which he or she has had major responsibilities. Finally, the attorney must pass a written examination.
At the present time there are only 106 attorneys certified as specialists in the field of Labor and Employment law in Ohio.
